ELKINS, W. Va. – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team continued their winning streak with a 21-3 victory over the Davis & Elkins College Senators on Friday (April 20) night.
The Storm is now 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the G-MAC with their tenth straight victory.
Lake Erie opened the game with a 5-0 run over the first seven minutes. Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored an unassisted goal less than three minutes in. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) scored twice off assists from Meagan Maxwell (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg) during the run. Maxwell added a third assist on a goal by Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) scored the fifth goal from a feed from Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). The Senators scored one goal with 21 minutes left in the first half, trimming the lead to 5-1. Over the next 18 minutes, Lake Erie rattled off six straight goals for an 11-1 advantage. A. Spin started the scoring with an assist from Crawford. Maxwell scored seven minutes later on an unassisted goal. A. Spin found the back of the net with 10:43 remaining in the half. One minute later, Michelle Burke (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth) scored on an assist from Crawford. Mathis added her second goal with an assist from C. Spin. Maxwell made it 11-1 Storm with four and a half minutes left. The Senators snapped the Storm's run with a goal in the final three minutes. With one minute to go before the half, Andersen scored from Maxwell as the Storm led 12-2.
A. Spin was a part of the Storm's first three goals in the second half. She scored less than two minutes in and then assisted on goals from Andersen and C. Spin. Davis and Elkins scored their final goal of the game with 23 minutes left as they made it 15-3. Lake Erie scored six goals over the final 23 minutes for the 21-3 victory. C. Spin scored two goals and had one assist during the final run. Crawford, Burke, Haley Abraham (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) and Jacquelynn Ho (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) all scored goals while Brigid Lempko (Buffalo, NY / Mount Mercy Academy), Maxwell and Andersen made assists.
C. Spin scored a team-high four goals along with two assists, two groundballs, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. She reached the 100 career points milestone in the first half. Crawford scored three goals with two groundballs and two caused turnovers. A. Spin combined three goals and three assists for six points with two draw controls. Abraham had three goals and two assists for five points. Maxwell finished with seven points, two goals and five assists. Mathis added two goals, two groundballs and two draw controls.
The Storm will continue the G-MAC road trip with a game at Alderson Broaddus on Sunday (April 22).
