PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team will close out the 2017 regular season with a trip to Michigan for the final two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season games. The Storm will face the Grand Valley State University Lakers on Friday (April 28) and the Northern Michigan University Wildcats on Sunday (April 30).
Storm Report: The Storm enters the weekend with a 9-3 overall record and a 2-3 GLIAC mark. The Storm rallied for a 15-14 win in double overtime over Findlay on Sunday. Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) had nine goals, including the game winner and she leads the team with 47 goals this season.
Opposition Position: Grand Valley State is currently 5-8 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Lakers defeated McKendree 16-15 in their last game and will host Walsh before facing the Storm. Meghan Dalema leads the Lakers with 31 goals scored this season. Northern Michigan is 2-11 in their inaugural season of play and 0-5 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats fell to Indianapolis in their last game. They will host Walsh before hosting the Storm on Sunday. Shelby Klatz leads the Wildcats with 26 goals.
Series History: The Storm and the Lakers have met on the field six times since the program's inception in 2010. Lake Erie won the inaugural matchup and the Lakers have won the last five, including two last season. With Northern Michigan just beginning the program, this weekend will be the Storm's first matchup with the Wildcats.
Storm Forecast: The Storm is currently tied for the fifth seed in the GLIAC Tournament, which is set to begin next week.
