PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team fell to the McKendree University Bearcats, 19-6 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game on Sunday (April 9) afternoon on Senior Day.
McKendree opened the game with a goal before Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) tied the game up off an assist from Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy). Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) gave the Storm the 2-1 lead when she converted a free position shot. The Bearcats scored six straight goals for a 7-2 with six minutes left in the first half. Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) scored on an assist from Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn), cutting the lead to 7-3 with three minutes left in the half. McKendree ended the half with six goals and a 13-3 lead at the break.
The Bearcats scored three times in the first six minutes before Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) scored her ninth goal, assisted by Mathis. McKendree found the net three more times before Quiggle and Crawford scored goals in the final seven minutes.
Crawford scored two goals in the game along with grabbing three groundballs. Quiggle had one goal and one assist with two groundballs. Mathis had one goal, one assist and two draw controls. A. Spin won a team-high five draw controls along with her goal scored. Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) picked up three groundballs in the game.
The Storm will travel to Walsh University for a GLIAC matchup on Thursday (April 13).
