ERIE, Pa. – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was defeated today (March 19th) by Gannon University, 18-7. With the loss the Storm falls to 1-3 overall and with the win Gannon improves to 3-2 on the season.
Gannon scored the first nine goals of the game, before the Storm scored late in the first half. Lake Erie scored when Cecilla Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) found the back of the net off of an assist by Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning). The Storm entered half time trailing 9-1.
In the second half, the Storm opened the scoring when Mathis assisted Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) to make the score 9-2, in favor of Gannon. Gannon answered with three goals to make the score, 12-2. Spin scored her second goal of the game off of an assist by Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) to make the score, 12-3. Gannon scored three more goals before Taylor Izzo (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) scored an unassisted goal to make the score 15-4 in favor of Gannon. Gannon answered with two more goals before the Storm scored again when Crawford found the back of the net off of a pass from Quiggle to make the score, 17-5. Gannon and Lake Erie traded goals, and Crawford scored her third of the day for the Storm. Ten seconds later the Storm scored again when Spin scored from a free shot position to cut the Gannon lead to 18-7.
The Storm was led by Crawford and Spin, who each scored three goals for Lake Erie. Quiggle had two assists and two ground balls in the game. Mathis had a goal and an assist in the game for the Storm.
In net for the Storm was Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario / Anderson C.V.I.) she faced 46 shots, 34 of which were on goal, and made 16 saves.
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (March 21st) when they host Urbana at 12 P.M.
