PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (7-10, 1-7 ECC) was unable to close its season on a winning note as it fell to visiting Queens College (10-6, 4-3 ECC), 19-10 at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville, Ohio.
The Storm matched their program high in wins from the 2010 season under first-year head coach Jillian Howley. Lake Erie went 5-3 in home matches this season.
Lake Erie was led in defeat by sophomore Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) with three goals. Sophomore Annie Mendoza (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic) added two goals and two assists while junior Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewilt) and Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) also had a pair of scores. Junior Allison Trombetti (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) rounded out the Lake Erie scoring with a goal.
The Knights got out to a 3-0 lead just 2:50 into the game but Lake Erie tallied the next two scores as Trombetti scored from sophomore Michaela Schock (Dover, Delaware/Caesar Rodney) and West scored from Kudla.
The teams traded goals and Queens tallied two more before Kudla score from junior Brittany Rabuano (Auburn, N.Y/Auburn) to make the score 6-4 Knights at 14:10. It's as close as the Storm would be the rest of the way as Queens scored the next eight goals. Lake Erie's West broke the Knights streak but Queens scored again with 19 seconds in the half to take a 15-5 advantage to the break.
In the second half, Queens tallied the first two goals to go ahead 17-5 before Lake Erie started its run back into the game. The Storm scored four straight goals as with goals from Howe, West and a pair by Mendoza. Queens stopped the run to double up the score at 18-9 with 10:56 to play. The Knights scored again before Kudla scored the game's final goal.
