GREENSBURG, PA. – Host Seton Hill erased a three-goal deficit in the final 13 minutes with a 7-0 run to stun the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team in an East Coast Conference (ECC) contest Wednesday (April 11) .
Three different players scored for Lake Erie (6-5, 0-3 ECC) in a low-scoring first half that was tied at 3-3. The Storm went ahead 6-3 on the strength of a pair of goals by freshman Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange).
Seton Hill (9-2, 2-1) scored twice to cut the deficit to one, 6-5, before Lake Erie again extended the lead to 8-5 on goals by junior Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and sophomore Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt), her third of the game.
But it was all Griffins after that. Emma Simmers and Rachel Hilbert scored twice during the 7-0 Seton Hill barrage that lasted just under 11 minutes. The spurt put the Griffins up 12-8 and well on their way to a second straight win overall and sixth in a row at home.
Abu-Kwiek scored with one second left on the clock for her fourth goal of the game. West finished with three goals while junior Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored a goal and had four assists.
Simmers led Seton Hill with four goals while Alessandra Nicholas scored three goals and Hilbert and Emily Fagan each scored twice.
Sophomore Emily Rock (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West) made a season-high 14 saves.
The Storm will look to bounce back and pick up its first conference win of the season with a pair of games at home this weekend starting Friday, April 13, against Dowling College.
