PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Freshman Julie Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored six goals and added a pair of assists for the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team in a 15-11 exhibition victory over the Coastal Carolina University club team on Wednesday (March 3) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
It is the program's unofficial first victory, since the game was played as an exhibition match and is not sanctioned as an official varsity contest by the NCAA. However, it does mark the first time the Storm was ahead when the game ended.
“It's a big confidence boost for our team heading into this weekend,” said head coach Laura Maness. “We had a tough game on Tuesday in bad weather against Ferrum (15-10 loss) and it was good to come out today, on the road, and play with some fire. Even though (Coastal Carolina) aren't a varsity team, they are a respected club program with talented players.”
Freshman Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored four goals and added an assist. Kim Dang (Atlanta, Ga./Jackson) scored three times and Allison Trombetti (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) and Brittany Rabuano (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) each scored a goal and had an assist.
Kudla also had eight draw controls.
The Storm (0-1) resumes regular season play and wraps up its spring break trip on Friday, March 5, at Erskine College.
