PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's golf team has signed a pair of student-athletes to letters of intent for the upcoming 2011-12 season head coach Milt Johnson announced on Wednesday (May 25). Andy Armstrong (Troy, Ohio/Troy) and Shannon Stamper (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) will compete for the Storm starting in the fall.
"Both Andy and Shannon have a chance to come in and compete for spots in the top five on the team from day one," Johnson said. "The thing that both of them will do is push other players to improve. Better competition in practice and going hard after spots in tournaments is the way we will get better as a team."
Armstrong twice earned all-conference honors at Troy High School, being named to the Great Western Ohio Conference First Team as a senior after collecting All-GWOC second-team recognition as a junior. Twice Armstrong was an individual medalist and also won the Troy Country Club Junior Championship two times. She also competed for four years in swimming, reaching sectionals each year in that sport.
Stamper was a four-year varsity letter-winner and earned second-team all-conference honors at Rocky River High School. She served as a team co-captain and received the team's Coaches' Award and Sportsmanship Award.
"Andy and Shannon both have four years experience in competition and will both become good players in the GLIAC if they continue to improve," Johnson added.
