TIFFIN, Ohio- The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team dropped a game to the Tiffin University Dragons today (Feb. 23). With the loss, the Storm's overall record drops to 11-14 overall with a G-MAC record of 8-12.
Breanna Bauer started the game off by scoring first for the Storm, but the Dragons were able to get to a six point lead with five minutes left in the first. The Storm came back and took a 9-8 lead after Farrah Benner drained a shot from downtown with just under two minutes left to play in the first quarter, which ended with a tie game (11-11).The Dragons opened the second quarter with an 11-point uncontested scoring run before freshman Laney Billing put a stop to their momentum. The two teams went into the locker rooms at the end of the half with the Dragons leading by eight.
The third quarter was consistent for Tiffin's offense, as they were able to consistently extend their lead from ten to twelve points. But the Storm wasn't finished, and three pointers by Farrah Benner, Ashley West, and Josie Chaddock were able to pull the Storm within three of the Dragons two minutes into the fourth, but the Storm weren't able to get over the hump and take the lead. The game ended with a final score of 71-65
The Dragons edged the Storm in shooting from the field and beyond the arc, and the Storm edged the Dragons in rebounds. The game ultimately came down to turnovers, and the Dragons scored 24 points off of the Storm's 24 turnovers committed throughout the game.
Leading the Storm in scoring today was junior Farrah Benner, recording 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and blocks, and one steal. Josie Chaddock recorded 15 points with seven rebounds, and four assists.
The Storm heads to Walsh for another Great Midwest matchup on Thursday, Feb. 28.
