PEPPER PIKE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team lost tonight against Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe, Ursuline College. The final score was 78-73. With the loss, the Storm's record falls to 7-5, 4-3 (G-MAC). Ursuline snapped a three-game losing streak, and improves their record to 4-9, 3-4 (G-MAC) with tonight's win.
The game started off with both teams trading leads throughout the first quarter, until Storm junior Farrah Benner hit a three-pointer to put the Storm up 12-10 with two minutes left to play in the first. Benner continued to hit another shot from range, and was good for a point from the charity stripe to put Lake Erie ahead over Ursuline 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Jordan Joseph hit a three-point jumper early, followed by a jumper in the paint, which put the Storm up 21-12 with 7:30 left to play in the second. The Arrows went on a run, and a foul by Elaine Billings allowed Ursuline to tie the game up at 25 with three minutes left to play in the half. Another run by Ursuline put them ahead 31-27 heading to the locker rooms at the end of the half, and the Storm was not able to get it back in the second half.
Josie Chaddock led the Storm in points (16) and assists (7). Ashley West led the team in rebounds (7), six of which were defensive. Madison Mattimore scored 10 points and also earned four steals. Coming off the bench, Farrah Benner added 12 points, and one steal and rebound.
The Lake Erie College women's basketball team returns to Osborne on Thursday, December 10 to face the top team in the G-MAC, Cedarville University. Tip is set for 5:30pm.
