PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Storm women's basketball team lost this evening against Hillsdale College, 85-61, in Hillsdale College's Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.
Ashley West got the ball rolling for the Storm making the first layup of the game with 8:12 left to play in the first. The Chargers were quick to respond and took the lead with a three-pointer by Brittany Gray. Breanna Bauer gave the Storm a 4-3 lead with another layup before the Chargers went on an eleven point run leading the Storm 13-4 with 4:23 seconds left to play in the first quarter. The Storm offense continued to chip away, and finished the first quarter trailing 19-16.
West opened the second quarter up by making a free throw, but the Chargers scored five points before Farrah Benner stopped their momentum with a three pointer, making the score 24-20 in favor of the Chargers with 6:38 seconds left in the first half. With one minute left to play, the Chargers had a ten point lead over the Storm, and the teams went into the locker room at the half with a score of 39-25.
Hillsdale opened the third quarter with a quick layup by Allie Dewire, and Breanna Bauer answered fifteen seconds later with a layup of her own. Bauer pulled a defensive rebound down, and was fouled. She made her two shots at the line to cut Hillsdale's lead to twelve with 7:43 left to play in the third. She scored nine points in the third quarter alone, and Benner added ten. The Storm still trailed Hillsdale 65-53 going into the fourth quarter.
Hillsdale ran away with the game in the fourth quarter, scoring twenty points. In the fourth quarter the Storm committed six fouls and two turnovers, and shot 25% as a team.
Farrah Benner led the team in points recording 17 and four defensive rebounds off the bench.
The Storm returns to the court on the road for an afternoon matchup against G-MAC foe Findlay University on Saturday, December 15. Tip is scheduled for 1:00pm.
