BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team began a home-and-home series with the Bluefield State College Big Blues on Tuesday (Nov. 28) night on the road.
The Storm used a second half run to down the Big Blues 83-58.
"We got a number of contributions in the game from both starters and the bench. Kayla [Gabor] and Josie [Chaddock] each had great games for us, scoring double digit points, respectively. Sophie [Sonneman] really clicked in the second half for us. Jordan Joseph (Solon, Ohio / Solon), Farrah Benner (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Paige Tranchida (Marine City, Mich / Marine City) all provided energy and good play off the bench in the game," said Storm head coach Bob Booher.
Lake Erie held a 21-16 lead after the first quarter of play. The Big Blues took a short lead in the second quarter but the Storm ended the quarter with a 35-29 advantage at the half.
Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led the Storm with 13 points and six rebounds in the opening half. Josie Chaddock (Minerva, Ohio / Minerva) converted five of nine field goals for ten points, along with four rebounds.
Lake Erie pushed the lead to 15 after three quarters as the Storm led 57-42. The Storm finished the contest with a 26 point fourth quarter, en route to an 83-58 win over the Big Blues.
Gabor scored seven points in the second half, totaling 20 for the game, along with 11 rebounds. Chaddock ended with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Sophie Sonneman (Jamestown, Ohio / Greeneview) scored ten of her 12 points in the second half for the Storm. Benner shot three of four from beyond the arc for 11 points in the game.
Lake Erie shot 44% from the floor and 80% from three point range.
The Storm will return to the court on Saturday (Dec. 2) for the first Great Midwest game against Ursuline.
