PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team looks to continue the momentum in January as they play two key GLIAC South games this week. The Storm will host #1 Ashland on Thursday (Jan. 19) before traveling to face the Findlay Oilers on Saturday (Jan. 21).
Storm Report: The Storm enters the week with a 7-9 overall record after the Storm has won three of four games in January. The Storm is 5-5 in the conference after wins at Tiffin and Walsh last week. Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led the Storm with 22 and 28 points in the two wins, respectively. Gabor leads the GLIAC with an average of 20.4 points per game.
"We are coming off a couple of nice wins last weekend and face the challenge to continue to improve and finish the regular season on a high note," said Storm head coach Bob Booher about the games this week.
Opposition Position: The Ashland Eagles come to Painesville as the number one ranked team in the country. The Eagles are 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the conference. The Eagles are led by Laina Snyder, who averages 18 points and nearly ten rebounds a game. The Findlay Oilers are 8-9 with a 2-7 record within the GLIAC. The Oilers are coming off a loss at Hillsdale. Findlay's leading scorer is Anna Hintz, as she averages 9.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Series History: The Storm dropped both matchups to the Eagles last season. In the Storm's 86-55 loss on the road, Gabor led the Storm with 13 points. Lake Erie managed a split with the Oilers in the season series last year. The Storm won on the road with a 73-64 win with Gabor scoring 21 points. Gabor scored 19 points in a 61-56 loss at home.
Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will host Hillsdale next Thursday (Jan. 26) and travel to Ohio Dominican next Saturday (Jan. 28).
