PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by third ranked Ashland University, 80-35.
The Storm entered the media timeout in the first quarter trailing 9-4, as Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) hit her first two shots of the game. The Eagles ended the quarter on an 11-0 run and the Storm entered the second quarter behind, 20-7.
The Eagles started the second quarter on a run before Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) hit a three to end the Eagles run. The Storm continued to claw their way back as Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) and Sophie Sonneman (Jamestown, Ohio / Greeneview) hit back to back layups. The Eagles ended the half on a run and entered the half ahead, 41-17. The Storm was led by Narducci and Sonneman as each had four points at the intermission.
The Storm traded baskets with the Eagles early in the third quarter entered the media timeout with the Eagles still leading. The Eagles maintained their lead and the Storm entered the fourth quarter trailing, 59-33.
Ashland rode their momentum through the fourth quarter to secure an 80-35 win.
The Storm was led by Narducci and Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) as each had a team high six points, and three steals. Carpenter also had a team high seven rebounds.
Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Thursday (February 5th) as they take on Malone at 6 P.M.
