Storm Falls to Cardinals

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Saginaw Valley St., 84-54.  With the loss the Storm falls to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference and with the win the Cardinals improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. 

The Cardinals jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Storm scored two straight buckets, when a Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) layup tied the game at six points apiece.  The Cardinals went on a 6-0 run late in the quarter to take a 21-12 advantage, the run was ended by a Carlye Garst (Salem, Va. / Salem) jumper.  The Storm entered the second quarter trailing 21-14.      

Saginaw Valley started the second quarter on a 7-0 run, and the run was ended by a Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) foul shot, to make the score, 28-15.  The Cardinals continued to play well and entered the half with a 48-26 lead over the Storm.  Lake Erie was led by Skelton as she had eight points, three rebounds, and a block.    

The Cardinals momentum carried over to the third quarter and Saginaw Valley led 58-28 at the media timeout.  The Storm was unable to cut into the lead and entered the fourth quarter trailing 66-36. 

The Storm went on a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter behind a pair of three pointers by Victoria Burdo (Waterville, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) and Megyn Christensen (Swanton, Ohio / Swanton) to cut the Cardinals lead to 66-44.  The Storm was unable to battle back and fell, 84-54.    

The Storm was led by Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) as she had 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  Narducci also added 10 points, four assists, and two steals.  Skelton led the Storm with three steals, and also pitched in on offense with eight points.    

Lake Erie will be back in action at the start of the new year when they travel to take on Lake Superior St. at 1 P.M. on Saturday (January 2nd).
