BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was victorious today over Ferris St., 66-45. With the win the Storm improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference and with the loss the Bulldogs fall to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The first quarter was a hard fought battle in which the Bulldogs came away with a slight edge, 17-14. Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led the Storm in the first quarter with four points and two steals.
The Storm took control of the game in the second quarter and would not trail again in the game. The Storm went on a 16-4 run in the second that spanned the entire length of the quarter, to give the Storm a 30-21 advantage at the half. The second quarter surge was led by Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) as she had four points, two blocks, and two rebounds in the quarter.
The third quarter was a back and forth battle that saw the Storm maintain their nine point advantage, (47-38). The Storm was led by Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) in the third quarter as she was a perfect 3-3 from the field and made her only foul shot, to amass seven points in the third quarter.
The Storm pulled away late in the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run that was highlighted by a steal and layup by Brianna Shagovac (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst Steele). The Storm won the game 66-45.
The Storm was led by Gabor as she had a game high 15 points, two steals, and two rebounds. Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) also pitched in with 14 points, and a game high five steals. Skelton led the Storm with six rebounds and also added nine points.
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (December 5th) when they travel to take on Grand Valley St. at 1 P.M.
