Storm Falls to Tiffin, 74-64

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated by Tiffin University today (January 29th), 74-64.  With the loss the Storm falls to 7-12 overall and 2-11 in the conference, and with the win the Dragons improve to 5-14 overall, and 4-9 in conference play.

Tiffin started hot as they opened the game on an 11-0 run that was ended when Lake Erie took a 30 second timeout with 17:26 minutes to play in the first half.  The Storm answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6, 11-5.  The run was highlighted by a steal and a fast break layup by junior guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton). Tiffin answered with a 13-0 of their own to make the score 24-5, the run was ended when freshman guard Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) hit a jumper to make the score, 24-7.   Lake Erie went on a run 15-0 that started with 8:40 remaining in the first half, which cut the lead to 4, 28-24 in favor of Tiffin.  The run was highlighted by senior guard Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) who hit a three off of an assist by junior guard Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio / Miami Valley).  Tiffin led by 10 at the half, 37-27. 

Lake Erie opened the second half on a 14-4 run that tied the game at 41-41 with 15:51 remaining in the game.  The run was led by Gabor who had nine of the 14 points on the run.  Junior Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) also had a lay-up and a foul shot for a three point play during the run.  Tiffin went on an 11-3 run that gave the Dragons an eight point advantage, 53-45.  The run was ended by a Murray three off of an assist by Carpenter.  Lake Erie and Tiffin traded buckets for the remainder of the game, Tiffin won by 10, 74-64.

Lake Erie was led by Gabor, Narducci, and Murray who had 19, 17, and 12 points respectively.  Freshman forward Kristine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Ohio) led the Storm with nine rebounds and seven points.  Carpenter led the way with six assists.   

The Storm will be back in action on Saturday (January 31st) when they travel to take Ohio Dominican at 1 P.M.
