PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today (December 6th) by Grand Valley St., 64-60. With the loss the Storm fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference and with the win the Lakers improve to 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
The game started as a back and forth battle and the lead changed hands three times in the first seven minutes of the game. Grand Valley went on a 12-3 run that started with 11:58 to play in the first half and it led to a 26-17 advantage for the Lakers. The run was stopped by a layup by junior center Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) off of an assist by junior guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton).
In the second half Lake Erie went on a 9-2 run that started with 8:54 minutes left in the game and covered three minutes. The run narrowed the Lakers lead to two points, and was highlighted by junior guard Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio / Miami Valley) who hit a three pointer off of an assist by senior forward Chloe Irish (LaGrange, Ohio / Keystone).
The Storm offense was led by freshman guard Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) who had a game high 20 points. Skelton added 13 points and had a game high eight rebounds for the Storm. Carpenter also added 10 points and led the Storm in assists with three.
Lake Erie will be back in action Sunday (December 14th) when they travel to take on Hillsdale at 1 P.M.
