Rounding into form: Storm perform well in GLIAC tune-up

ASHLAND, Ohio – Lake Erie tuned up for its 2014 outdoor conference championship by competing at the Ashland Alumni Open on Saturday.

LEC athletes posted a number of big performances in the non-scored meet. The Storm men earned three wins among five top-3 finishes, and the LEC women claimed five top-5s.

Senior Jamil Dudley did his prep work for defending his Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in the men's high jump. Dudley won the event with a leap of 2.20 meters (7-02.50). He also earned third place in the long jump.

One other LEC performer earned first place at Ashland – junior Joe Postwaite notched a 15.31-meter (50-02.75) mark in the men's triple jump.

Zack Soyring (javelin, 54.84 meters) and Shavon Thompson (200-meter dash, 21.86 seconds) registered third-place finishes in the meet.

The Storm women saw two runner-up performances in the open. Freshman Nadia Lee carded second place in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.57 meters (37-11.50). And junior Destiny Prusky was runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters (5-05). Lee also came in fifth in the long jump.

Shanita Fluker (fourth in the 400-meter dash, 59.65) and Danielle Martin (third in the 200, 25.25) also posted top-5 finishes on the day.

"This was a great way to ramp up to the GLIAC meet at home in the upcoming week," said Head Coach Ryan Rademacher. "We are ready t compete against the best in the country. We've been preparing mentally and physically and are definitely ready."
