PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Three school records highlighted the first day of the indoor track and field season for Lake Erie College as the Storm opened the 2009-10 campaign on Friday (Dec. 11) at the unscored Golden Flash Gala at Kent State University.
Junior Kyle Griffith (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey)set the first record of the day, clocking in at 15:44.71 in the men's 5,000-meter run. His time was good for 18th place overall in the race, which had 44 entrants.
Sophomore Mike Gritz (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) established a new benchmark in the weight throw, completing a toss of 44-8.25. On the women's side, freshman Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) set the school record in the long jump in her first collegiate meet, leaping 16-00.5.
The highest individual finisher for the Storm on the day was freshman Desmond Reed(Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) who finished tied for 14th in the long jump at 20-0.25.
Action resumes at the Golden Flash Gala Saturday morning (Dec. 12) beginning at 10 a.m.
