HILLSDALE, Mi.- The Lake Erie College Storm softball team split with the Hillsdale College Chargers in a G-MAC road matchup today. The split brings the Storm record to 11-25 with a conference record of 7-13.
The first game was a 10-0 loss in five innings. Rachel Ward faced 19 batters in two innings, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and one walk while earning three strikeouts, although the Chargers scored eight runs in those two innings due to five errors committed by the Storm defense. The loss puts the freshman pitcher at 1-5 overall for the year, and Hayley Dix came in to pitch in relief.
The second game was a 5-4 win for the Storm. Hillsdale took a three-run lead in the bottom of the first. By the top of the fifth, the Storm raged back to tie the game, with the help of a two-RBI double hit by Leah Buck. The Chargers took back the game in the bottom of the fourth, 4-3, but the Storm was not finished. The Peacock twins sealed the deal in fifth and seventh innings respectively, driving in two key runs. Kaitlin Peacock singled up the middle for an RBI to tie the game, and in the seventh inning, Kristin Peacock executed a bunt to drive the winning run in to secure a split with the Chargers.
The games scheduled for today against Gannon University have been canceled, however, softball returns to action with a road matchup against Tiffin University tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24. The doubleheader will begin at 2:30pm and live updates will be available on lakeeriestorm.com as well as the G-MAC Digital Network.
