PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College softball team lost to the Findlay Oilers today with final scores of 6-2 and 8-5.
Hayley Dix started the first game in the circle for the Storm, and got three innings of work before freshman Parker Viele took over. Viele pitched the rest of the game in relief, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and a walk while earning two strikeouts. Their only runs of the first game came in the bottom of the seventh inning when they were down by six runs. Junior infielder Kait Peacock hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Storm two runs in the loss.
In the second game, the Oilers took a quick 3-0 lead in the first. However, the Storm offense began chipping away and by the bottom of the third inning, they were up 5-3. Freshman Rachel Ward started game two in the circle for Lake Erie, working for five innings and giving up four runs, of which one was earned, on seven hits and one walk while earning three strikeouts. Hayley Dix came in relief and gave up three runs, giving the Oilers back the lead and ultimately earning the loss.
Four Storm hitters had extra-base hits in the second game against Findlay, including two doubles by Allyssa Johnson, and another home run hit by Kait Peacock.
Lake Erie softball returns to G-MAC play tomorrow in Kiwanis Rec Park for an afternoon matchup against Cedarville University.
