(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference 2019 Softball Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour was released today and the Lake Erie College Storm was ranked 11 out of 14 with 59 points in the voting. Cedarville was picked first getting 157 points and five first-place votes. Additionally Ohio Dominican (148 points) and Findlay (144) received first-place votes as well.
Last season the Storm had an overall record of 16-22 with a G-MAC record of 10-12. In 38 games, they had a team batting average of .281, OBP of .340, and a slugging percentage of .369. Seniors Savannah Karako (BA .430, OBP.528, SLG .605) and Allyson Hajnosz (BA .286, OBP .310, SLG .403) will be missed as they combined for 31 runs scored and 36 RBI.
Returning for the Storm in the 2019 season are Kate Peacock, Taylor Phillips, and Allyson Deemer. Peacock, a junior infielder, batted .229 for the Storm last season with a slugging percentage of .339 and a near-perfect fielding percentage of .980 in 38 games. Phillips (So.) played 31 games in the outfield for the Storm, hit for .345 with an on-base percentage of .387, and had a slugging percentage of .529 in her freshman season.
Deemer brings senior leadership to the circle with 20 career wins to her credit for the Storm. Last season she had an ERA of 2.52.
The Storm starts the 2019 season off in Clermont, Fla., taking on Quincy University and Concordia College on Friday, March 8.
