Storm Splits on Day Three in Florida

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they split their double header.  They fell to Gannon 1-0 in game one, and won game two, 4-0 over Dominican College.

Game one started as a pitchers battle as the first four innings where scoreless.  Ashley Brown (Dayton, Ohio / Carlisle) was in the circle for the Storm as she cruised through the first four innings, as she walked nobody and stuck out one batter.  The Golden Knights scratched across a run in the top of the sixth inning and took a 1-0 lead.  Brown pitched a scoreless seventh inning to give the offense a chance, but the Storm fell, 1-0 in game one.  Brown pitched a complete game, as she allowed one run on six hits, and had one strike out.

Game two started with a scoreless first inning, but the Storm grabbed the lead in the top of the second.  Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) led off the inning with a double into left field, and the next batter Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) singled into right field and advanced Doershuk to third base.  With Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) at the plate, the Storm performed a double steal and Doershuk scampered home, to make the score 1-0 in favor of Lake Erie.  The Storm added to their lead in the third as Chloe Allen (Lebanon, Ohio / Lebanon) led off the inning with a single.  The next batter up Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) doubled to the left centerfield gap and drove in Allen.  Later in the inning the Storm loaded the bases with a Doershuk single and Ka. Peacock walk.  The next batter up Kr. Peacock singled through the left side and gave the Storm a 3-0 lead.  Lake Erie tacked on another run in the fourth when Doershuk singled up the middle and plated Payton Brownlee (Newark, Ohio / Granville) who singled earlier in the inning.  Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) closed the game strong as she tossed a perfect seventh inning.  Deemer pitched game two for the Storm as she threw a complete game shutout.  Deemer allowed five hits and struck out three batters.

Lake Erie will return to the diamond Thursday (March 1) when they play Davenport and Nyack, with first pitch set for 11:30 a.m and 2 p.m. respectively.
