SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they split with Notre Dame College. The Storm fell in game one, 3-2 but bounced back to take game two, 4-2.
After a scoreless first inning the Storm grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning. Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) led of the second with a ground-rule double, and was later driven in when Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) singled to left, to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage. The Storm added to their lead in the top of the third when E. Karako singled to left field to plate Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) who singled earlier in the inning. The Falcons cut into the Lake Erie lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Storm. Notre Dame tied the game with a run in the fifth and won the game on a walk off in the bottom of the seventh. The Falcons won game one by a score of 3-2.
In game two Lake Erie grabbed the lead in the second inning when Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) singled home Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) who doubled earlier in the inning. The Storm tacked on a pair of when Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) hit a two run homerun. The next batter up E. Karako made it back to back homeruns as she hit a solo homerun, to put the Storm up 4-0. The Falcons battled with a run in the sixth and seventh but fell, 4-2. On mound in game two was Shevenell as she pitched a complete game and received the win. Shevenell allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.
Lake Erie will return to the diamond Saturday (April 22) when they travel to take on Grand Valley State.
