Storm Sweeps Dragons

PAINESVILLLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they swept Tiffin University.  The Storm won the first game 6-5, and took the second game by a score of 4-2. 

The Dragons jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first inning.  The Storm quickly responded in the bottom of the first.  Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) reached on a fielder's choice and Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic)singled before Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) hit a three run homerun to left field, to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Storm.  After a scoreless second inning the Storm tacked on two more runs in the third when Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) walked and was drive in by a S. Karako homerun, to give the Storm a 5-1 advantage.  The Dragons came back to tie the game with a run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to tie the game at five runs apiece.  The Storm took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) singled and drove in Alyssa Johnson (Wickliffe, Ohio / Wickliffe) to give Lake Erie a 6-5 lead.  The Storm held on to win game one, 6-5.

The second game started as a pitcher's duel as Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) was on the mound for the Storm and pitched a solid first two innings not allowing a run.  The Dragons opened the scoring in the third with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead.  The Storm tied the game in the fourth when a Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) double drove in both Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) and Lewis.  Later in the inning the Storm took the lead when Kr. Peacock doubled to center field and drove in Ka. Peacock, to give the Storm a 3-2 lead.  The Storm tacked on a run in the top of the seventh when S. Karako doubled to left center to drive in Rizzo.  Shevenell pitched a perfect bottom of the seventh inning and the Storm held on to win game two, 4-2.    

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (April 8) when they host Ashland University with the first game of the double header set to start at 1 p.m.
