PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team is set to get their 2017 season underway. The Storm was tabbed to finish 12th in the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Coaches' Poll. Lake Erie will be under the direction of first year head coach Rebecca Dyer as she looks to continue to build upon the foundation set by former coach Stephanie Smith.
The Storm won a school high 16 games last season, and compiled a 16-26 overall record as well as winning seven conference game. Lake Erie will return eight of their nine starters from last season. Lake Erie's offense will be driven by Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) and Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown), both players enter their junior year and both have been two time members of the All-GLIAC team. The Storm pitching staff will be led by Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) and Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) as they threw a combined 245 innings for the Storm last season.
Lake Erie will open their season in Florida on their annual spring break trip. The Storm will play 10 games in Florida. Head Coach Rebecca Dyer said "the team is working harder than ever and I believe we will have our best season in program history".
