TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they dropped both games of their double header against Tiffin University.
The Storm jumped out to a 3-0 in the first as Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) led off the game with double. The next batter Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) singled and then Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled to drive in Urgo. Later in the first Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) singled and drove home both Rizzo and S. Karako. The Dragons responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Rizzo led off the third inning with a triple, and she was driven in by S. Karako. Tiffin responded with a run in the third and cut the Storm lead to 4-2. The Dragons scored five runs in the fourth and took a 7-4 advantage. The game remained scoreless until the seventh when Lindsay Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led off the inning with a single. Later in the inning both Rizzo and S. Karako reached base and Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) drove home Valvoda and Rizzo. The Storm could not complete the comeback and fell 7-6.
The Dragons opened the scoring in the second game with a run in the first. After three scoreless innings the Dragons added a run in the fifth and took a 2-0 advantage. The Dragons added a run in the seventh before the Storm scored in the bottom of the seventh. S. Karako singled to lead off the inning and was later driven in by a Hajnosz double, but the Storm was unable to finish the comeback and fell, 3-1.
Lake Erie will be back in action Sunday (April 3rd) when they travel to take on Ohio Dominican with the first game of the double header starting at 1 P.M.
