PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team had five players named on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams.
Jessacca Gironda, a graduate student who played softball at Kent State during her undergraduate degree, was named All-GLIAC First-Team. Gironda led the Storm with a batting average of .375, and was second in the conference with 21 stolen bases.
Sophomore catcher Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic), and freshman infielder Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) were both named All-GLIAC Second-Team. L. Karako batted .323, had seven doubles and drove in 24 run on the season. S. Karako posted a batting average of .368, led the Storm with nine doubles, hit two homeruns on the season and still has yet to be stuck out in her collegiate career.
Graduate student pitcher Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio / Brookside), and freshman third baseman Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) were both named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team. Ondercin pitched 156.1 innings and compiled 15 complete games on the season. Ondercin a career best earned run average (ERA) of 4.39, and she won 11 games for the Storm. Hajnosz batted .342 and led the team in homeruns and runs batted in (RBI) with six and 37, respectively.
Lake Erie look forward to next season when L. Karako, S.Karako, and Hajnosz all return, as they look to build upon a successful season.
