PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball split their double header action today (April 21st) against Hillsdale. With the split the Storm is 11-21 overall and 5-15 in the conference, and the Chargers are 21-19 overall and 12-10 in conference play.
In game one, the Storm took a lead in the bottom of the third when Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion), Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown), and Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) all reached on infield singles. Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) drove them all in with a grand slam, to take a 4-0 advantage. Hillsdale scored a run in the fifth, but the Storm held on to win the game 4-1.
In game two, the Storm opened the scoring in the third when Urgo doubled and drove in Jessacca Gironda (Kent state). Later in the inning Hajnosz singled up the middle and scored Urgo, to make the score 2-0. Hillsdale scored six runs in the third and took a 6-2 lead. Hillsdale won the game 6-2.
On the mound in game one for the Storm was Dawn Ondercin, and she won her ninth game of the season. Ondercin pitched a complete game; she allowed one run on three hits. Ondercin stroke out seven batters, and only walked one batter.
Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow (April 22nd) when they host Findlay, with the first game of the double header starting at 3 P.M.
