PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was defeated in both games of the double header today (April 19th) by Ohio Dominican. With the losses the Storm falls to 10-20 overall and 4-14 in the conference and with the wins the Panthers improve to 9-33 overall and 5-15 in conference play.
In the first game Ohio Dominican took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. The Panthers added a run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) ripped a double down the right field line to score both Jessacca Gironda (Kent State) and Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion). Later in the inning the Storm tied the game at 4-4 with two more runs, when Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) reached on an error and drove in Hajnosz and Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). Ohio Dominican scored two runs in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, and held on to win the game.
In game two the Panthers jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first. The Panthers added two runs in the second, and took a 3-0 advantage. The Storm answered back in the third when Hajnosz singled to drive in Gironda, to make the score 3-1 in favor of Ohio Dominican. The Panthers scored three run in the sixth, and won the game 6-1.
Katarina Davis (Independence, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) pitched eight and two-thirds innings combined in relief in both games for the Storm. She allowed six runs on 10 hits. Davis had two strikeouts and two walks on the day.
Lake Erie will be back in action when they host Hillsdale on Tuesday (April 21st) with the first game of the double header starting at 3:30 P.M.
