Wheeling, W. Va.– The Lake Erie College softball team split the double header today (March 17th) against Wheeling Jesuit. The Storm is now 6-6 on the season and Wheeling Jesuit is 4-8 overall.
The Storm fell in game one to Wheeling Jesuit, 8-0. Wheeling Jesuit had a strong pitching performance that propelled them to the victory.
In game two the Storm bounced back to win 8-2. The Storm opened the scoring in the second inning when Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) walked and Jennifer Doershuk (Streetsboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) hit a two run homerun, to give the Storm a 2-0 advantage. Wheeling Jesuit scored in the fourth to make the score, 2-1 in favor of the Storm. Lake Erie answered back in the fifth with two more runs when Jessicca Gironda (Kent State) singled and drove in Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic), and later in the inning Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) singled and drove in Gironda, to give the Storm a 4-1 advantage. Lake Erie added another run in the fifth when Gironda drove in S. Karako. The Storm finished the game strong with three runs in the seventh, when Yanek hit a three run homerun .
Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) pitched a complete game in the second game. Lewis only allowed three hits, and one earned run while striking out three.
Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (March 25th) when they travel to take on Ursuline with the first game starting at 3:30 P.M.
