CALDONIA, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College softball team fell in its 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener, dropping two contests to Ferris State University, 9-0 and 14-0.
In game one, the Storm (2-10, 0-2 GLIAC) were held without a hit as Ferris State (10-7, 3-2 GLIAC) pitcher Dana Bowler pitched a perfect game for the Bulldogs. Ferris State was propelled by a six-run third inning.
In game two, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening frame and did not look back en route to the win to their second shutout of the day. Morgan Studd (Wakeman, Ohio/Western Reserve) led the Storm with two hits while Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry), Courtney Hawk (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) and Chelsey Bleck (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) recorded a hit apiece. Hawk also had a stolen base.
The Storm return to action on Saturday, March 30, for a GLIAC doubleheader against Grand Valley State University.
