PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The University of Findlay (18-13, 9-9 GLIAC) took two more games off Lake Erie College (5-28, 2-14 GLIAC) Saturday to finish off a four-game sweep. The Oilers won by counts of 6-2 and 14-1 in five innings.
In game one, Lake Erie jumped out to a first inning lead when senior Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) reached on an error to bring in redshirt freshman Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) who led off the game with a triple to left. Findlay matched the Storm with a solo run in the bottom of the first but Lake Erie went back ahead 2-1 in the second when sophomore Krista Haley (Holland, Ohio/Springfield Holland) doubled and was brought home as an unearned run.
A two-run homer gave the Oilers a 3-2 advantage after two innings. Foley singled with one out in the third inning but it was Lake Erie's last baserunner until seventh inning when Haley picked up her second hit of the game.
Findlay extended its lead to 5-2 with four singles in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the fifth with an unearned run.
Sophomore Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside) worked the complete game and allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned).
After a scoreless first inning of game two, back-to-back errors by senior pitcher Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) cost her and led to six runs (five unearned) in the frame. The Oilers piled on with two more runs in the fourth and another six spot in the fourth inning. Lake Erie avoided the shutout in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore Fayth Atkins (Holland, Ohio/Springfield) hit a two-out double, moved to third on a bunt single by Klemp, and was driven in on a single to third by freshman Amber Dowen (New Lyne, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley).
Lake Erie continues a 14-game road swing Wednesday with a pair of league games at Ohio Dominican.
