PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College (5-22) softball team was held scoreless in a doubleheader at Cedarville University (22-11), 8-0 in five innings and 4-0 at Lady Jacket Field in Cedarville, Ohio.
The Storm was able to plate a run in game two despite 10 hits. In game one, Lake Erie had just a lone hit by sophomore outfielder Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) in the fifth inning.
In game two, eight of Lake Erie's nine starters got hits with Gratz and senior centerfielder Haley Rathge (Edon, Ohio/Napoleon) each accounting for a pair. Rathge also had a double accounting for the Storm's lone extra base hit. The Storm also drew three hit by pitches, a walk and a reached on error but stranded all 15 baserunners.
Lake Erie left one runner on base in every inning including the bases loaded in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Storm went 10-for-18 with no one out or a lone runner on first base but 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Senior Sam Ronde (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) went the distance for Lake Erie, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored in every innings with solo runs in the first two frames and two runs in each of the final three. Sophomore Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits.
Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow as it hosts its "Taking Breast Cancer By Storm" games against GLIAC-leading Ashland University with first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
