PAINESVIILE, OHIO - Senior third baseman Brittany Sostre (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) and freshman designated player/first baseman Juliana Brotzman (Madison, Ohio/Madison) both earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honorable mention selections, in an announcement from the league office today (Friday, May 6).
In Lake Erie's first season in the GLIAC, Sostre started 44 games and led Lake Erie in batting average (.415), home runs (16), runs batted in(46), on-base percentage (.455) and slugging percentage (.838). The Parma native set the Lake Erie single season and career home run (24) records, finishing her college career with 44 home runs between Lake Erie and Walsh University. The senior is currently ranked seventh in the GLIAC in batting, third in home runs, fourth in RBIs and second in slugging percentage. Nationally, Sostre is ranked 10th in DII in home runs, 16th in slugging, 39th in RBIs. The senior saved her best work for last, batting .558 over the final 17 games of the season.
Brotzman started 46 games in 2011, with 35 coming at designated player and eight at first base. She also saw time at catcher and third base. The freshman was second on Lake Erie in batting average (.377), home runs (three), RBI (17), walks (12), on-base percentage (.432) and slugging percentage (.514). The Madison native led Lake Erie with 11 doubles despite playing nearly the entire season with an injured finger She is currently ranked 12th in the GLIAC in batting.
Lake Erie finished the 2011 season 10-38 in its first year as a member of the GLIAC. It was the first time the Storm have finished with double-digit wins in their three years as a member of NCAA Division II.
