Softball found a break in the weather, but got no breaks from GLIAC-leading Ashland University (25-11, 17-3 GLIAC), as Lake Erie College (9-31, 1-21 GLIAC) fell 5-0 and 8-0, in a doubleheader at Brookside Park in Ashland, Ohio.
In game one, the Eagles got an outstanding pitching performance from ace Emlyn Knerem. Knerem, who no-hit the Storm in 2010, allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 15 batters. Freshman first baseman Jennifer Gratz (Richmond, Ohio/North Union) registered Lake Erie's hit, through the right side.
On the opposing end, freshman Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside) threw a solid outing, working a complete game and while allowing five runs, just two of which were earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts. Ashland recorded two runs in the fourth and three unearned runs in the sixth.
In game two, Lake Erie's offense did not fair much better, with three hits and no walks as Knerem started again and lasted five innings to pick up her 19th win of the season. Senior outfielder Danielle Finkler (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire), junior catcher Ali Heming (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin)and junior shortstop Lindsey Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) each had a hit for the Storm.
On the mound, freshman Sara Shields (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo) got the start and suffered the loss.
