PAINESVILLE, Ohio (March 22, 2009) - Lake Erie College lost in double header action Sunday afternoon to one of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) top teams, losing to Ashland University, 6-2 and 3-1. In only its second home date of the season, the Storm totaled nine hits on the day with freshman shortstop Jamie Wodecki (Northfield, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) recording three of them - one going for extra bases.
In the first game of the afternoon, Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead after three complete innings before the Eagles put their first run on the board in the fourth. The visitors then put together a five-run fifth inning and kept the home team scoreless the remainder of the game. Freshman Megan Foley (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) went 1-for-2 with a home run and Wodecki went 1-for-2.
In the second game, the Storm again took the lead - this time 1-0 after four innings with a double by Wodecki, a walk by Foley, a single by sophomore Danielle Finkler (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) and a sacrifice fly by freshman Lindsey Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland). Ashland scored a run in the top of the fifth and added two more in the sixth for the win. Wodecki went 2-for-3 with a run and Finkler went 2-for-3.
Lake Erie (2-17) is at home again on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a double header against Edinboro. This game was originally scheduled to be at Edinboro, but due to unplayable field conditions, has been moved to Lake Erie's Slattery Field in Painesville.
