Storm Remain Unbeaten At Davenport

(Calendonia, Mich)- The Lake Erie men's soccer team came away with another gutty victory on Friday night, holding off Davenport (0-3) in a back and forth contest to win the road match 2-1.

The two teams traded goals early in the first half. In the 8th minute mark, a pair of freshman connected as Tom Akinola found Ayden Von Essen who scored his first goal of the season to give the Storm an early lead.

Davenport was able to do something no other team this season was able to do against the Storm, and that was to score. In the 17th minute Panther forward Justice Sikkema was able to put in a shot on a cross intended for his teammate Lasse Pico Kjeldsen. Sikkema was in the right place to score his second goal of the season.

Akinola was very active on the field in Friday's match. In the 32nd minute Akinola broke free into the box and fired a shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Joshua Doupe, Akinola avoided the Davenport defenders and put back his own shot.

Davenport looked to apply pressure in the second half and outshot the Storm 4-10 but was unable to produce a goal. Lake Erie only produced ten total shots in the match.

Storm goalkeeper Tom John had a season high eight saves. The goal by the Panthers was the first allowed by the junior goalkeeper this season.

The Storm will stay in Michigan for a matchup against Northern Michigan (1-2) in a neutral site match at Davenport University. The match between the Storm and the Wildcats will begin at 1 p.m. sd junior Vince Borden, who finished on a header to give Rutgers an early lead in just the second minute of the game.
