Storm Roll 3-0 Over Slippery Rock

(Painesville, Ohio)- Coach Louie Rolko and the Lake Erie men's soccer team have been working on the 2nd ball game all week. The quick touches transitioned onto the field in the 3-0 win in Saturday's matchup vs Slippery Rock.

After a double-overtime victory on Thursday over defending GLIAC champion Ashland, the Storm came out strong in the first half. In the 23rd minute of the match, a ball was crossed into the box where Sander Van Der Sluijs was able to kick it back out to an open Ameer Saade for a left-footed goal past Matt Hunsberger the Rock goalkeeper.

"Tonight was really about our depth and the guys coming in off the bench and those guys made a significant impact and were a huge reason why we were successful tonight," noted Rolko.

With four seconds to play in the first period, Saade returned the favor with a beautifully placed ball to Van Der Sluijs in which he was able to head it in before going into the halftime break.

The Storm would not settle, in the 53rd minute, Javier Borreguero dribbled his way into the box and tapped a pass to freshman forward Tom Akinola for his first goal of the season. Lake Erie outshot Slippery Rock 7-0 in the second period and 12-7 in the match.

Storm goalkeeper Tom John recorded his second straight shutout of the season with four saves in the victory.

The Storm go on the road next to play conference opponent Malone on Tuesday at 4 pm.
