NORTH CANTON, Ohio-The Lake Erie College men's soccer team snapped a three match winless streak with a 3-0 shutout of the Walsh University Cavaliers on Sunday (Oct. 2).
Lake Erie improved to 6-3-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the GLIAC with the seventh clean sheet of the year by the Storm defense.
Lake Erie Head Coach Kevin Brenner spoke about the win, "I'm absolutely thrilled for the players as we had a complete team win, front to back! The back line and Hugo continued to play at a very high level. Today, we were clicking on all cylinders and played some attractive soccer!"
Lake Erie provided the pressure on offense in the first half as they outshot the Cavaliers 9-2.
Campbell doubled his goal total for the season with his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute. Ben Phillips (Manchester, England/College of St. Scholastica) brought a pass up the left side of the field, fed it to Campbell, who finished for the score.
Miguel Espinoza (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added a goal late in the 85th minute as he beat the keeper unassisted.
The Storm took eight shots in the second half, compared to Walsh's six shots. For the game, the Storm won the shot battle 17-8.
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lycee Bristol) made five saves en route to his seventh shutout of the season.
The Storm will travel to Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 7) for a road GLIAC matchup.
