PAINESVILLE, Ohio-After rising to sixth in the standings last week, the Lake Erie College men's soccer team dropped a few spots in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings. The fourth edition of the rankings was released on Tuesday (Sept. 27) and the Storm was ranked in the tenth spot for the D2 Midwest Region.
Entering a week with two matchups against teams ranked in the same top ten, the Storm exited the weekend with one loss and one draw. On Friday (Sept. 23), the Storm took Saginaw Valley State to overtime but fell 2-1 on a late goal. Max Maguire (Letchworth, England/Hitchin College) scored the only goal against Saginaw Valley.
On Sunday (Sept. 25), Lake Erie finished with a tie against the defending GLIAC champions, the Northwood Timberwolves. Neither team scored as the game ended 0-0 in two overtimes. Saginaw Valley was ranked eighth last week and Northwood was ranked fifth in last week's rankings.
Lake Erie is also faring well in other rankings as well. In the NCAA Division II statistical rankings, the Storm is currently third in the nation with shutouts. Lake Erie, through eight games, has a shutout percentage of 75%. With only four goals allowed in eight games, the Storm is tied for seventh in the nation with a goals against average of .48.
The Storm will have two road games this week as they will face Ohio Dominican and Walsh for GLIAC conference games.
