PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team opened the 2016 season with a 2-0 win over the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College on Thursday (September 1st) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
In the 35th minute, Lake Erie found the back of the net. Andrew Bucur knocked a corner kick from the left side of the field. Ben Phillips was there to head the ball past the goalkeeper. Phillips' first goal with the Storm made it a 1-0 lead at the half.
Lake Erie added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as Kenneth Kolke scored on an assist from Bucur. Bucur fed the ball inside the box to Kolke for Kolke's first goal of the season. Bucur finished the game with two assists.
The Storm defense held the Redhawks to one shot on goal in the game with Hugo Faroux making the only save. Lake Erie outshot Roberts Wesleyan 15-10 and took ten corner kicks in the game.
The Storm will return to action on Sunday (September 4th) as they travel to Slippery Rock for a non-conference bout with the Rock.
