UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was defeated today by Saginaw Valley St., 3-2. With the loss the Storm falls to 5-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the conference and with the win the Cardinals improve to 12-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
The Storm jumped out to an early advantage when Samuel Mutemwa (Johannesburg, South Africa / Sandringham High School) scored an unassisted goal to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage. The Cardinals responded with a goal to tie the game when Troy Watson scored off of an assisted by Matt Wilson. The Storm took a 2-1 advantage just before the end of the first half when Stuart Campbell scored an unassisted goal.
The Cardinals tied the game at two goals apiece in the second half when Jordan Kalk scored off of an assist by Watson. Saginaw took a 3-2 lead when Tyler Channell scored an unassisted goal with 20 minutes remaining in the game. The Cardinals held on to win the game 3-2.
In net for the Storm was Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont. / Pikering) he faced 15 shots, five of which were on goal, made two saves, and three allowed goals.
Lake Erie will be back in action when they host Malone on Friday (October 23rd) at 7 P.M.
