PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to upset 13th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University Friday (Oct. 2).
The Storm improved to 4-1-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play while the Cardinals picked their first conference loss.
The Cardinals scored the lone goal of the first-half when Matt Wilson found Aleksander Isaevski in the 18th minute.
However, the Cardinals answered a minute later when Troy Watson scored in a ball that bounced around the box to re-establish their lead.
The Storm found life four minutes later. Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) set up Campbell off a corner kick to tie the game at two.
The momentum continued to swing in the Storm's favor. In the 77th minute, Gibson stole the ball of a Cardinal defender and curved in a shot from about 15-yards up to give the Storm their first lead of the evening.
In the closing minutes, the Storm defense held tough as they secured the win over the ranked Cardinals.
Gibson and Campbell and a goal and an assist each.
Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pikering) picked up the win in net, making eight saves.
The Storm is back in action Sunday (Oct. 4), playing host to Northwood University.
