PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team was victorious over Walsh today, 6-1. With the win the Storm improves to 2-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference and with the loss the Cavaliers fall to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Storm jumped out to an early lead when Stuart Campbell (Glassgow, Scotland / Glassgow Academy) scored off of a throw in by Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto), to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage. The Storm added to the early lead when Joseph Coombs (Knutsford, England / Holmes Chapel Sixth Form) found the back of the net off of a corner kick from Stefan Martin (Surrey, England / Greenshore), to make the score 2-0.
Lake Erie continued to pull away when Campbell scored his second goal of the game off of an assist by Gibson, to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Storm. Walsh answered with a goal of their own by Brett Sparks, to cut the lead to 3-1. Lake Erie added a goal when Miquel Ezpinosa (Perry, Ohio / Perry) scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 4-1. Campbell scored his third goal of the game off of an assist by Chad Bencina (Willoughby, Ohio / Willoughby South) to give the Storm a 5-1 advantage. Jordan Van Haaster (Bedford, Ohio / St. Peter Chanel) made the score 6-1 when he scored off of an assist by Andrew Bucur (Waterdown, Ont. / St. Mary's).
In net for the Storm was Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lycee Bristol) he faced six shots, three of which were on goal, made two saves, and allowed one goal.
Lake Erie will be back in action Sunday (September 27th) when they travel to take on Malone at 3 P.M.
