PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team opened their 2015 campaign with a loss today against Seton Hill, 4-3. With the loss the Storm falls to 0-1 on the season and with the win the Griffins improve to 1-1 overall.
Seton Hill opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Harry Beattie scored off of an assist from Tom Urguhart. The Storm responded when Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont. / St. Mary Catholic) scored off of an assist from Chad Bencina (Willoughby, Ohio / Willoughby South), to tie the game at 1-1. Lake Erie scored again before the half when the Novak free kick found the foot of Stefan Martin (Surrey, England / Greenshore) to make the score, 2-1 in favor of the Storm.
In the second half, Seton Hill tied the game when Curtis Gallagher scored with 35 minutes remaining in the game. The Griffins took the lead when Joe Smith scored, to make the score 3-2 in favor of Seton Hill. Lake Erie tied the game when Novak scored his second goal of the game off of an assist from Ryan Gibson (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto).
Seton Hill won the game in overtime when Scott Fox finished the cross from Colin Watson to win the game, 4-3.
In net for the Storm was Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont. / Pikering) he faced 23 shots, 12 of which were on goal, made eight saves, and allowed three goals. Novak took over in net for the overtime period after Ljubevski received a red card.
Lake Erie will be back in action Friday (September 11th) at 7 P.M. when they travel to open conference play against Ohio Dominican.
