CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Lake Erie College men's soccer team opened the 2014 season with an exhibition match at Division-I Cleveland State University on Wednesday (August 20).
The Storm and the Vikings ended in a 1-1 draw.
"Today was a tough test for our players with only two days of preseason practice under our belt," said Head Coach Davie Carmichael. "It was a great opportunity for our players to compete and for our coaches to evaluate and takes notes against a quality opponent."
Jeffery Swanson (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored the lone goal for the Storm in the second half. Filip Ljubevski (Ajax, Ont./Pickering) made seven stops in net. Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ont./St. Mary Catholic) recorded two shots on net, including one that rocketed off the crossbar. Alfred Majer (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) also had two shots on net.
"Our returners looked sharp and our newcomers certainly proved that they are here to compete," continued Carmichael. "Overall, the result was positive and we will use this experience to build upon."
