PAINESVILLE, OHIO – One third of the way through the opening half, the Lake Erie College men's soccer team was even with the No. 4 ranked team in the country Sunday (Aug. 30) but Northern Kentucky took over from there, scoring five unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 win at the John Toebben Classic in Wilder, Ky.
Andrew Montgomery scored twice and had an assist for the Norse (2-0), a national semifinalist a year ago. Lake Erie's (0-2) lone score in the match came on an own goal in the 16th minute.
The Storm trailed 4-1 at halftime and was outshot in the match 19-7. Senior Jared Daly (Hubbard, Ohio/Ursuline) and redshirt freshman Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) combined to make five saves.
Lake Erie hosts Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday (Sept. 1) at 4 p.m. It is the first of seven straight home contests for the Storm at Slattery Field.
