PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team fell to #10 Lindenwood University on Thursday (April 20) afternoon.
The Lions defeated the Storm 9-8.
Lindenwood scored the first two goals of the game in the first seven minutes. Five minutes later, Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) scored on an assist from Nick Benningfield (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg / Limestone). The Storm tied the game with 16 seconds left in the quarter, when Ward scored off of a feed from Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer).
In the second quarter, Lake Erie took a 3-2 lead on Ward's third goal of the game, assisted by Tim Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) in a man-up opportunity. Reed Hnidy (Saskatoon, Sask. / Genessee CC) gave the Storm a 4-2 lead with an unassisted goal with six minutes left in the first half.
Ward opened the second half with his fourth goal of the game, off an assist by Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) Less than a minute later, Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) found the back of the net as the Storm led 6-2. Lindenwood scored four straight goals to tie the game at six at the end of the third quarter.
The Lions scored three straight goals in the fourth quarter, taking a 9-6 lead. Renaud scored twice in the final three minutes as the Storm cut the lead to one. Lindenwood defeated the Storm 9-8.
Ward led the Storm with four goals in the game while Renaud added two goals.
Brandon Donahue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude) picked up seven groundballs while Hnidy grabbed five groundballs. Alex Corbett (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) had four groundballs for the Storm. Bret Swan (Acton City, Ont. / Halton Hills) won 18-of-20 faceoffs along with three groundballs.
The Storm will host Mercy College on Sunday (April 23) afternoon at 12:00 PM at the Britt.
